Soy
Soy is one of the most widely studied foods for its health benefits.
Kallo has a number of soy based products.
Derived from the soya bean, soy contains high quality protein, its oils are mainly unsaturated and it contains no cholesterol. Soya bean oil also contains essential fatty acids. Soya beans and many of the foods produced from them also contain: iron, B vitamins, calcium and zinc.
In addition to this, according to the British Heart Foundation, Soya is also a rich source of isoflavones. Isoflavones belong to a group of compounds called phyto-oestrogens, which are found in many plants and have similar properties to oestrogen, a hormone found in the human body. Research has also suggested that soy may have a number of other beneficial properties such as its cholesterol lowering properties.
In June 2002, the UK's Joint Health Claims Initiative approved the following health claim for soy products:
'The inclusion of at least 25g Soya protein per day as part of a diet low in saturated fat can help reduce blood cholesterol'
